Harvey Hawke- One Day Old

I  have a post about Harvey's birth day almost ready, but for now I'll  share his one day old pictures.

Maternity Photos

I'm 33 weeks in these maternity photos. Of course, at the time, I thought sam would be missing the birth, so we were including him in some of the pics!

He's Home!

Okay, where do I begin? This is a big one. A day we will remember forever and ever. Most Army wives are not this lucky. I just knew I would never be this lucky. Shows how much I know. A few days prior to this day, my Dad came into my room and said, "Hey KSL wants to come cover our stocking project and they'd like to interview you." So, I agreed. After he left my room I kept thinking  to myself, "Why would KSL want to cover our stocking project??!?!" It didn't make any sense. You see, we were planning a service project. Money was donated and awesome things were bought and stockings were stuffed. We had our neighborhood sign letters to the soldiers and we had arranged to have a street party where the letters would be signed and people could have donuts and cider. It didn't seem like something a news crew would cover. I started to get more and more wigged out. I told my Dad that I would prefer they interview him. I mean I am 9 months pregnant and the size of a whale. I DO NOT need to be on the news!!!

California Roadtrip (and a lil AZ too)

In June we took a road trip. Thankfully Sam bought me the sickest mini van ever cause it was a great car for the trip. My parents were so generous and invited us to stay in Carlsbad for their week long timeshare. It was something we did growing up. We love Carlsbad so much. The town is adorable with fun shops and restaurants. We had a gorgeous view of the beach.
We were able to see old friends and go to church in Poway as well. It was so good.

The BIG Goodbye

Nothing makes saying goodbye easy. No, not even this large pound of Sees Nuts and Chews that I bought myself. Sam had a month long training in Germany, in March. We went back and forth with plans and finally decided that the kids and I would head back to the states (where we would be living for the upcoming deployment). He would come out later to meet us. There we would have two weeks together and then say goodbye. He would leave for the 9 month deployment.

Scheid Baby #3- Pregnancy Update!

It has been a while. I promised myself I would not let this blog get behind and here I've done it. We've been in survival mode. It all started when I got really sick with this pregnancy. We found out we were pregnant in January. Sam was busy getting ready for a deployment. He was gone here and there for short trainings and then for about a month long training. During that month long training I was in the REALLY sick stage. I was alone and all I did was stay a float. In March I took the kids to the states by myself and in April Sam met us in Utah. We were able to spend a couple of weeks together and then we said our goodbyes as he was heading off to Afghanistan. I got a little bit of energy and motivation and I ended up traveling back to Germany with the kiddos. I wanted to see him one last time and, honestly, I missed Germany! We got 5 or so extra days with Sam. It turned out our trip was meant to be- we found out we would be moving our household back to the states and regardless of when, I would've had to go back either way. So, I felt extremely blessed that we got there in time to see Sam off.

Thanksgiving Point Gardens July 2014

I had been wanting to check out the Thanksgiving Point Gardens for a while so my Mom and I decided to go! This was our first time and we took the stroller and set out for a journey. These are gardens are HUGE and beautiful! The TG point gardens are 55 acres of immaculate gardens, lawns and landscape architecture. There is a massive man made waterfall and trails going through all of it. You can feed koi, picnic, rent a golf cart or segway and it is just super fun! If you love the outdoors and enjoy beautiful things, like me, then these gardens are a fun outing.

Sites of Germany: Fasching

Have you ever heard of Fasching or Karneval? It is a celebratory time here in Germany. I've heard it compared to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I wasn't sure of the reason they celebrated it, but I knew I wanted to get a glimpse of what it was all about. A town near us called Wolframs Eschenbach had their own parade and celebration so went over to a friend's house and enjoyed the craziness of "Fasching!"

Valentine's Party! 2014 (& Daddy flying over the house!)

We ALWAYS love a good flyover, especially if it's Sam in a chinook, flying over our house.

Road trip to the Bavarian Alps (Northern Romantic Road)

A couple of weekends ago we had a spare couple of days and wanted to do something cool. Sam wanted to use his new snowboard and so we decided on Garmsich. Garmisch is a place we have been so many times, but we love it a lot! The place we usually stay at was booked most the weekend but they did have openings on Sunday night. We decided Sam would head down early with a friend who already had a room booked and the kids and I would head down on Sunday.

I so enjoyed my road trip with Londyn and Trip. Our GPS took me a random way. For a while I was concerned but when I double checked the route with my phone GPS I realized we were good to go. We took our time, made some stops and soaked it all in. The new route ended up being part of the Northern Romantic Road, so I was super excited!
The courtyard and well of Schloss Harburg. We pulled into this amazing castle and I had no idea where we were. It just came out of nowhere. The castle has a biergarten (restaurant) and it was even open. Because we were slightly excited to see Sam we didn't stay and eat. I do plan on taking the family back to eat there because it is situated above a river and it is absolutely breathtaking.

Munich Zoo, Germany

Back in October we decided to take a quick weekend trip to Munich. We were able to go to the Munich Aquarium, a Munich vs. Malaga basketball game and also the Tierpark Hellabrunn (zoo). We had so much fun that weekend. I realized how much I loved Munich. We had never actually stayed in Munich. Munich is an amazing city and has a ton to do. The excitement and energy during the basketball game was so contagious. Sam has a friend that plays for the Malaga, Spain team, so it was especially fun to watch him play. We took the kids with us and we were out late with all the drunk and excited Germans and Spaniards.

The Aquarium (we felt) was a bit of a let down. It was a little overpriced and super tiny. It took us like 20 minutes to walk through the whole thing. If the kids had like it, it would have made it totally worth it (as usual)! But, Londyn was afraid of the dark, "tunnel-y," scary aquarium and wanted out of the place as soon as we walked in. Trip enjoyed it a bit more which was nice.
Heading to the zoo from the parking lot.

You aren't sick of Prague posts yet, are you? Our last post of our weekend in Prague is finally here!

An entrance to Charles Bridge from the Old Town side of Prague. This is definitely one of my favorite photos!

Homemade Valentine's Day Cards (Free Printable!)

Is anyone else having a hard time believing it is already February? I know I am. Well, we all know what February means! Valentine's Day. The day we celebrate love. Love for our friends, love for our classmates, love for our teachers, love for our colleagues, siblings, significant others, children, etc. It is so exciting, right?!

This year I decided to have some fun making my own homemade Valentine's Day cards. I brainstormed a few cheesy tag lines and went for it. I had so much fun that I decided to share them with you. They are so simple. Near the end of the post you can download the blank cards in a PDF doc. Happy creating!

Romance on Charles Bridge, Prague

While Sam and I were in Prague we were able to sneak away and spend about an hour and a half together ALONE! I am telling you it was so romantic! We walked from our apartment on Karlova in Old Town and just strolled on and across the Charles Bridge. We got starbucks and a rolled/donut pastry thing (trdlo) and then headed back. I was able to get lots of pics!

The Charles Bridge is a famous historic bridge. The construction started in 1357. The Charles Bridge is actually a replacement for the Judith Bridge which was damaged by a flood in 1342. It crosses the Vltava River and connects Old Town to the Prague Castle (among other sites).

Kids in Prague

Of all the sites and sounds in Prague (and there were many) my very favorite may have been these kids. People may say (and they aren't fibbing) that traveling is harder with kids. But, it also makes it so much fun! Don't get me wrong, there is nothing like going out without kids. It is refreshing and rejuvenating. But, I love the dynamic they add to the craziness of travel.

Say Goodbye to Sugar (in 2014 and forever)!

I know food is a touchy subject. It is a sensitive topic. Because, let’s face it, food is tradition. Food is comfort. Food is cultural. Food is so much apart of our lives. So, sometimes cutting something out.. like sugar.. feels impossible!

Well, I am here to encourage you to give it up. Yes, the substance we have grown up loving. The substance that has us smiling when we think of our favorite Christmas treats or a spoonful of that yummy, oh-so-addicting cookie dough. The substance that adorns all the grocery isles in all the most exciting and colorful packages. The stuff we can hardly keep from our children and loved ones… and OURSELVES!!!

Sam Turned Super Old on Christmas Eve!!

What can I say about Christmas Eve in our house?! It is a busy day. Sam was born on the 24th. Meaning, since I have married him I have made a huge effort to really focus on him for the day! Growing up I think he felt like his birthday got looked over. (Which would be really easy to do because Christmas Eve is such a fun, exciting part of Christmas!) So, we decided the first half of the day is his birthday, and the second half is Christmas Eve!!

2013- The Scheid Family's Year in Review

I can't believe another year has flown by and another glorious year has begun. I always get a little contemplative as one year ends and another begins. I love life and I love all the adventures both good and sometimes hard that it offers. I seem to be a lucky girl and I am looking forward to another year filled with, well, craziness!

For any family members and friends that read this post-- THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for being in my life and getting me all emotional as I review the year and daydream about what is in store for us in 2014. Life would not be the same without all of you.. no matter how small or large the part you play in my life is. Have a blessed and happy new year! Enjoy our 2013 year in review.
xoxo
